CIGNA, The Udonis Haslem Foundation, Miami Dade College and One Umbrella Case Management and Employment Services partnered to present, "An Umbrella of Hope Conference: Opportunities to Prosper, Grow and Heal" on January 23 & 24, 2023 at Miami Dade College - Wolfson Campus. This 2- day event provided a safe meeting space where formerly incarcerated women with the shared experience of incarceration, organizations specializing in reentry services and community stakeholders met to discuss, share knowledge, and talk about issues involving incarceration, criminal justice, mental health, and advocacy. The event's overall goal included identifying and tracking issues, developing action steps, and offering resolutions to subject matter affecting formerly incarcerated women.
Day one consisted of panel discussions, motivational speakers and mini workshops followed by a Reentry Resource fair on day two. The speaker lineup included Tarshea Sanderson, Executive Director of the Community Building Institute, Vicki Lopez, recently elected to the Florida House of Representatives and Udonis Haslem, Co-founder of The Udonis Haslem Foundation.
171 Registered participants walked away with renewed feelings of hope, guidance and support.
