Power Forward Through Hunger Initiative Inspires City of Miami to Approve $1m Meals Program
In 2020, when it became clear that the covid crisis would affect every part of our lives, Udonis Haslem was quite aware that there were still people among us who would suffer more than others. “I don’t know how I can get everyone to listen,” he lamented, “but I say this from the bottom of my heart: The people growing up in the real Miami? They’re as vulnerable during this crisis as anybody.” After reading these words written by Udonis in the Players Tribune, Commissioner Ken Russell was inspired to act and make food insecurity for Miami’s most vulnerable a top priority. Along with the Udonis Haslem Children’s Foundation, City of Miami Commissioner Ken Russell, Stock-Up Mart, and REEF Technology, the Power Forward Through Hunger Initiative donated one-weeks’ worth of food to 100 local families who were experiencing hardships due to the covid crisis.
